Shingles are one of, if not the most commonly used main component of roofs these days. Some people have always ridden off shingles thinking that they are a cheap option. From our experience, the way that shingles are made has evolved in the last couple of years. Now you can get shingles that don’t only look the part but are also going to be durable and the best part of it all is that they are not going to cost you a fortune to get or to install. With all of these things going for them it is a good idea to at least look into shingles as a real option!
Why Use Shingles
For many people, the first thing that comes to mind when someone mentions shingles is the price tag. One of the things that we have mentioned is that they have been largely viewed as the less expensive option. If you are making a decision strictly based on not going over budget, shingles are going to be your go-to option every time. It is not only about the price though. You can find shingles with different designs and colors. That are going to give your roof a great overall look.
Not All Shingles Are The Same
Not all shingles are probably going to be as cheap as you may have imagined. Going with the cheapest option is also usually not going to be a great idea. If you go with poorly made shingles your roof is probably not going to stay looking as good as new for long. The same thing goes for buying cheap tiles, or other types of materials. There is nothing wrong with trying to get a good deal. It is just that, one thing is getting a good deal, another thing entirely is buying junk. That is why we offer to help you in the process of selecting the shingles.
How Long Do Shingles Last?
Most shingles are essentially going to last around 15 to 20 years. Some less than that, very few could go for more than that, but we would have to be talking about an ideal situation. Where the roof essentially never has any type of debris issue. Which, actually could happen if you were to live blocks away from the nearest tree. To be real though, you are probably looking at 15 to 20 years. Replacing at 10 could also be an option.
Why Do So Many Homes Use Shingles?
If you are reading this, and you are puzzled, sort of thinking what am I missing about shingles. Here is a very quick explanation of why they are so popular. Shingles are very versatile, you can create all sorts of looks with them, they come and can actually be customized in different colors and textures. The price is something that we’ve talked about already. Also, most people don’t spend 15 years or more in a home so they don’t really care for a long term option.
